I drowned here
Sometimes I feel like I’m drowning within myself. From the outside you’d see a hollow shell of a man and from the inside I’m literally gasping for breath. It is this feeling of being in all of the chaos in which every thought is taken to be part of reality. Now, I sit and look within to find that there is somehow peace here. Where did that calm arise from, when just moments ago I was drowning from within?
That pure space arose when I detached myself from the main source of chaos, which is the mind. Being an internet fiend, I often get lost within the confines of this information storm which feels like an internal flood of energy that overwhelms me and carries me away from my natural place, leaving me gasping for breath and powerless. Sometimes it’s hard to see when the reality you’re living in at any given moment is not an objective reality, but actually a conditioned environment which your mind has constructed for you in reaction to events in your external world.
If you’re living within the confines of the constructs of your own mind, then seeing the truth may seem challenging, but truly it is as simple as initiating an honest observing of the whole of what you’re experiencing at any given moment. Is it possible that you have misidentified or have false assumptions about what is true? If it feels as if you’re suffering, I ask you to look and see if this “you” is truly who you are. Is it possible that this “you” is simply what the mind is portraying you to be?
I dreamt I was in this storm, gasping for my breath and essentially drowning from within. The next moment I was just here and completely at peace. What changed? I realized that the person who is drowning is only who I took myself to be. In reality the storm, the flood and the person drowning were merely a dream happening in my mind that I was putting all of my energy into. In other words, I was mistaking myself for the contents within this space of all experience rather than the space itself. Is it possible that you’re this pure space rather than what’s happening within it?
It’s impossible to know this truth as a fact in the mind, because the mind cannot think from outside of itself. The truth is revealed only as a matter of pure awareness. Don’t rely on anything other than a quiet and peaceful observation of your whole experience. Let go of any limiting concepts that your mind generates, because they aren’t the truth. Know that everything that you see cannot be you, because you are simply what sees everything. This is a very simple truth that doesn’t require any mental work to realize. It’s a truth that anyone can discover, but only if the often-beloved concept of who you are within this game of life is challenged with the beauty of pure seeing.
